Went over to a mate's shed and made him some tea while he lengthened my Harris arm. I love it, with it being steel it'll fit perfectly with the twin shock early 80's vibe..

Cheers man. Need to shave 1mm off each end cap but here's some mock up's of the eventual stance. Forks will be a little lower in the yokes.....

 Re: Big bhp Katanaha
Next weekend is the big 'Motor in adjust the frame' weekend so not much I can do right now. Loved the stopping power on a rat 'Thundercat' I used to abuse so thought I'd use the brakes. These are off an R1 but I like the blue spot look. I know most of the gorgeousness of the Cat front end was down to the fantastic cartridge forks it had but hey....They're going to be strapped down to the stop on the track anyway.

 Re: Big bhp Katanaha
Slight change of plan with regards to the frame although if I remember Dave did mention it as an option. Originally I was going to have these welded up. We decided it would be just as easy to make up some new rails the right distance apart. No going back now We are going to make one half of the lower rails 'bolt on' to easy motor in and outage.

The motor will be tilted slightly farther forward.

 Re: Big bhp Katanaha
Thinking about that wont having those lower tubes make everything a bit flexy, especially with a big power motor. Flexy is bad for control... How about two tubes running from swingarm pivot bracing to headstock that wrap round the motor, sort of converting it to perimeter frame but with the tubes detachable to put some strength back in?

 Re: Big bhp Katanaha
Fluff, as far as i understand he will make new frame tubes under the engine, just that modifying the existing ones would be more hassle than cutting them off and making new ones.

 Re: Big bhp Katanaha
Exactly that Captain Earmarked lots of other bracing pionts as well following tried and tested designs seen both here and on other Oldskool site. Was quite surprised by the amount of 'tension release spring' the frame showed when the tubes were cut. New rails will have the appearance of the old frame from the side but will be shaped to allow for a wider gap into which the sump can drop. Design of the head stock bracing will also be modified to allow for a central feed passage from the intercooler to the plenum link pipes which will run over the motor either side of the cam chain run on the rocker cover. Position of the drive sprocket also means the rear of the motor will have to sit about 10mm higher than I had hoped for chain / swingarm pivot clearance, so I am going to experience some tank clearance issues

Great project it will be ace to see how it will look finished I am sure it will end up looking mega. It will be a handful to ride I bet, too much for a lightweight like me lol! BEST OF LUCK WITH IT ! Nice to see the plenum I made going into something very interesting I love katana and xjr a nice combination for sure!

 Re: Big bhp Katanaha
Cheers Dave, nice workmanship. So nice infact that the frame will be adjusted to make the plenum fit, and it needs alot of adjustment. Go figure.........

 Re: Big bhp Katanaha
gotcha on the frame, for some reason I thought you were going to make the lower rails bolt on or something. Keep em coming

 Re: Big bhp Katanaha
Bloody Hell I just realised what fun you are going into . It was tight to make the plenum tubes fit into the space with the original frame but you may run into big probs moding the kat frame to suit this set up. Before you go too far with the frame are you sure it will not be better to mod the plenum instead? If you think it will be easier to do this and need any tips or help just ask I may be able to give you some tips or help BEST OF LUCK !!!!
