 Re: 7020 aluminium box section
6082-T6 is virtually as strong, MUCH cheaper, and much more weldable than 7020. My Hub Centre Steered monstrosity is pretty much exclusively made from 6082-T6...
Cheers, Mark.

 Re: 7020 aluminium box section
It's not so much the strength difference in hardened state. I want to weld it onto a swinger for a Magnum 1 top loop / shock mount and don't want it cracking where welded.

 Re: 7020 aluminium box section
specifying T anything on a material spec to be welded is pointless, as the welding process destroys the tempering in that local area. So unless your getting it post weld normalized and re-tempered its best not to need the temper part of the material spec on parts with a weld on them...

7020 to 7020 - don't know, I have a Honda Big One arm to cut about and play with, probably end up being cashed in for scrap if I'm being honest, but good to practise my Tig on

 Re: 7020 aluminium box section
well before you do, cut it up and practice on it, with a slice of it cut out to use as a filler rod! That way your guarentee'd to be welding the same stuff together with the correct filler rod. Ive ran out of exotic rods a few times and just used a offcut in a emergency...
